Kids HOPES provides young designers-in-training an educational opportunity to work alongside their friends or families while learning about and playing with water in a variety of ways. Suggested donation is $5 for Saturday and Sunday. Snacks and supplies will be provided.

Art projects and adventures for the youngest ecodesigners in the crowd. All children (ages 6-12) are invited to attend.

Volunteers will be available at specific HOPES events to watch children and to help them engage in the event and learn.

Saturday

  • Trashy Fashion Show Workshop
    9am-5pm
    Lawrence Hall, Room 141

Who knew that recycling could be so chic? Stop by our Trashy Fashion Show Workshop that runs all day Saturday. Kids will have the chance to create fabulous fashion designs embracing recycling and re-use! Join in on the fun and make your own marvelous outfit from 100% recycled materials, and find out how eco-groovy trashy fashion can be!

  • Build A Birdfeeder
    10:30am-12:30pm
    Lawrence Hall, Room 141

This workshop is tailored just for kids! As an alternative to Backyard Habitats, kids can build their own birdhouse to provide habitat for birds in the front or back yard! With a focus on reusing objects, kids can construct their very own birdhouse using materials such as milk jugs, plates, pinecones, and other re-used materials, all the while learning about nature! After the birdhouse has been constructed, each kid will have the opportunity to paint it just the way they like, and take it home with them. All materials for this workshop will be provided.

Sunday

  • Garden Debris Dyeing
    9am-12pm
    Millrace Studio 3, Room 162

Kids-safe and friendly, this workshop uses plants as an alternative to chemicals for dyeing. We will use plants like rhubarb and oak galls to prepare the yarns for dyeing. These will be low impact methods of dyeing, mindful of water use and disposal. Garden waste like carrot tops and tomato vines yield great color. Join us in this fun filled workshop and dye your own project from natural dyes! (Please be sure to bring along a material or fabric that you would like to dye during the workshop).

  • A Tiny Garden
    10:30am-12pm
    Lawrence Courtyard

This workshop will show your child how to make their own tiny garden. Come and make your very own planter of basil (a main ingredient of pesto!), mint and other plants. A Master Gardener will guide you on how to keep your plants alive and healthy. Work alongside you kid, get dirty, and learn about small plant gardens!
