Heiko Koester will demonstrate his technique for designing urban landscapes for self-sufficiency and environmental accountability. Heiko will lead participants in simple design exercises while sharing his experiences as a local radical landscape designer. In particular, Heiko will show you how to apply perennial polyculture systems to urban sites to achieve food security while also yielding fuel, fiber, and medicine. His discussion will also include simple techniques for water harvest and storage, maximizing solar gain, and addressing urban microclimate challenges. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Heiko Koester is a self taught ecological landscape designer residing in Eugene, Oregon. He draws extensively on the principles of both permaculture and restoration ecology. Over the last 20 years Heiko has worked closely with clients to find cost effective, practical ways of transforming their traditional landscapes into lush jungles filled with food, medicine, and beneficial habitat. In addition to his design and consultation services, Heiko also teaches on a wide variety of topics related to sustainable gardening. |
