Nate Cormier
Nate Cormier is a landscape architect for the Seattle firm SvR Design Company. His work explores how we can harness natural functioning systems as urban infrastructure and simultaneously enhance our community and environment. This subject, also called green infrastructure, is integral to the development of healthy cities and landscapes. Cormier is actively building a foundation of knowledge regarding green infrastructure in order to raise awareness and catalyze implementation of green infrastructural methods into our urban realm. Nate Cormier will be giving a talk on green infrastructure. Cormier has been involved in green infrastructure in his design work as well as own research. Nate is actively building a foundation of knowledge in order to raise awareness and catalyze implementation of green infrastructural methods into our urban realm. His most recent work towards an aesthetic of performance will be a central focal point of the talk. In order to delineate and clearly define green infrastructure, Cormier dissects the key components into five systems: habitat, community, water, mobility, and energy & materials. The interconnection between the systems creates a framework on which to plan and design our urban environments. He interprets this relationship at all scales: landscape, city, and site. Cormier’s work clarifies a sustainable model and initiates a crucial dialogue concerning our built environment. |
