John Baldwin Memorial Film Series

April 17 and 18, 2008, HOPES will include two films as part of the John Baldwin Film & Lecture Series, an event that will continue Saturday April 19 during the 10th annual Earth Day Oregon event held at EWEB’s Rivers Edge Plaza.

The Thursday and Friday films at the University of Oregon will demonstrate the importance of collaboration in sustainability. As our natural resources know no property boundaries or jurisdictional lines, neither should our efforts to sustain them.

The Saturday event at EWEB’s Rivers Edge Plaza will feature films and lectures throughout the day that focus on the “power” of sustainability. From a documentary on one family’s commitment to learn how to reduce the amount of garbage they produce to a panel discussion on the sustainability of this summer’s Olympic trials in Eugene, the films and lectures will highlight the power of people and renewable natural resources that we will all rely on to sustain our lives on Earth.

John H. Baldwin was the founding director of the Environmental Studies Program and the Institute for a Sustainable Environment at the University of Oregon. During his 25 years as a professor of public policy and planning at the UO, John worked at the local, regional, national and international level to make our planet a better place. He taught, presented, provoked, advocated, collaborated, coached, mentored and befriended environmental students and leaders all over the world. It is in this spirit that the film and lecture series has been dedicated to John H. Baldwin, Ph.D.
