The energy monitoring dashboard is a building performance and
conservation website that highlights key features of the campus and
buildings, and reports energy usage. The website is anticipated to
be available for use by summer 2009. Phase I will include information
about overall campus energy use, photovoltaic energy generation for
the campus, and will drill down into five specific buildings to report
their resource consumption, explain their systems, and to highlight key
aspects of the individual building(s). The goal of this project is to enhance
awareness of energy consumption. The project will educate building users
about the sources of energy on campus, as well as demonstrate real-time
and historic energy usage in understandable terms. In situations where
users have control over building operations, this resource helps to inform
decisions that ultimately reduce energy use.
In addition to a website, physical kiosks are being planned for some
buildings. From these portals, people within the buildings can access
real-time information about the building’s performance, relating facts
on the screen to the physical environment around them. The project will
start with one or two kiosks, increasing as more buildings are added to
the website and as budget allows.

The purpose of this charrette is to design the physical kiosks for the first
buildings to be featured on the website. Kiosks will be placed in central
and visible locations within the buildings, and are meant to engage
passersby and building users. Kiosks may be wall mounted or on a stand,
and will respond to the particular character of each building.
