4th Annual Bike Day Event

The morning will start with a morning group bike ride starting and ending at the Science Factory. Then a celebration will take place at the Science Factory from 11 am-3pm for bike safety demonstrations, marimba music, ice cream, bike tune ups, unicyclists, racing demos and other fun examples of human powered transportation. There will even be a crazy helmet and bike decorating contest and parade. Mayor Kitty Piercy will be on hand to present the "Bold Steps" Award to a local business that's a role model in sustainability. Admission is free and last year approximately 600 people attend which is expected to grow!

This tenth annual Earth Day Celebration is an environmentally-based event that celebrates the Earth and its resources. This year’s event theme is "Power to Change" and features educational activity booths, the John H. Baldwin Film & Lecture Series, two musical stages, a Procession of All Species, and much more! The event is produced by the volunteer efforts of the Earth Day Steering Committee.

CONCEPT DESIGN FOR A NEW EUGENE CITY HALL

On Wednesday, March 5, at 7 PM, in the McNail-Riley Building, the City of Eugene's design team invites you to join in a dialogue about design and sustainability as we develop the concept for a new city hall building at 8th and Pearl. The design team is looking forward to your feedback on a design in progress that incorporates features such as green roofs, bio-swales, night flushing, and solar heating. Designed for a 100-year horizon, a new city hall needs to be durable and adaptable as new technologies develop and the needs of Eugene residents change.

Global trends in climate change, economics, resources, international
relations and the environment are certain to increasingly affect the way
we work and live in important and unpredictable ways. What can individuals,
families and neighborhoods do to adapt for a very uncertain future?

Scattered all over Eugene, one can find wonderful examples of people
taking initiatives to live more eco logically- making changes in thier own
lives and properties with that uncertain future in mind.

Grass is turning to garden, automobile space is being converted to good
use, people are looking closer to home to satisfy more of thier needs and
building community at the same time. Home and the neighborhoods we live in
provide an accessible and human scale place for eco culture change, a
growing number of visionaries are already at work,,,,

The Feb. 27 presentation by Jan Spencer will focus on neighborhood
strategies for eco logical culture change touching on human potential,

You are invited to participate in Eugene's second Walking and Biking Summit on Saturday, January 26th. The Summit promises to be an engaging and educational event with plenty of opportunities for networking and learning about bicycle and pedestrian issues. City staff are planning on releasing the final version of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Strategic Plan at the summit and participants will discover plenty of opportunities to get involved with one or more of the eighty actions designed to achieve the vision of a more walkable and bikable Eugene. The event is free and open to the public so bring your friends and neighbors.

Do you appreciate the scenic beauty and natural resources of the Willamette basin? Do you want to be apart of the effort to help protect and sustain these natural values?
If so, the Mckenzie River Trust needs volunteers to help plant 12,500 native trees on Mckenzie River Trust's Green Island from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday, February 2nd.

Living a more natural, earth friendly life, in a healthier community will the focus of the 2nd Annual Good Earth Home, Garden & Living Show. This will be the first sustainable home, garden and living show of its kind in the United States. The innovative three-day event will be held January 26-28, 2007 at the Lane Events Center in Eugene, Oregon.

The Good Earth Show will showcase over 250 exhibits products and services in seven very stylish pavilions: sustainable healthy homes, organic gardens, efficient & alternative transportation, recycling & recyclables, organic food & beverages, wellness & living, and arts & books.
