HOPES29 CALL FOR PAPERS

Calling all creatives and visionary thinkers! Students, faculty, community and practitioners we seek your contribution to University of Oregon’s College of Design student-led HOPES conference. The theme of our conference is Structures in Transition: Design as Catalyst.

We are seeking interdisciplinary papers, creative works, and novel solutions to wicked problems. As young designers, we are confronting the impossibility of sustainability within a capitalist society and the challenges of speaking out against systemic injustices wrought by centuries of settler colonialism. Join us in examining local and global systems and access the deep wisdom of shared scholastic exploration. Contributions of design theory, eco-criticism, speculative design, and critical examinations of conference materials are encouraged.

Join the conversation! We want to hear how you think we might collectively shift our futures. Email your abstract (150-300 words) to the Ecological Design Center at edc.hopes@gmail.com with the subject line: CALL FOR PAPERS. Abstracts due March 1st.  Please keep final presentations to 10-12 minutes, or 3000 words.

Invited speakers this year include scholar and activist Jeff Hou (Design as Democracy), design theorist Matthew Wizinsky (Post-Capitalist Design), anti-racist designer Teresa Moses (Blackbird Revolt), and utopianist Tim Waterman.
